Antonio Conte wants Cesc Fabregas to stay at Chelsea but Nemanja Matic could leave

Former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas who have been rumoured to be on his way out the 2016-17 Premier League champions this summer could spend more years at the Stamford Bridge according to fresh reports.

According to the British tablet, Daily Express, the World Cup winner has been given fresh assurance by his Italian manager and only a huge offer could take him away from the club.

Fabregas was left out of the starting line-up against his old club Arsenal at Wembley, raising fresh questions about the Spaniards’ future.

Fabregas, 29, had spent most of the title-winning league campaign on the bench, though often coming on to make a significant impact in key games as a substitute.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder had made no secret of his need to play more football and at one stage of the season, Chelsea had been looking to find buyers.

But Conte has now changed his mind and Fabregas himself wants to remain at Stamford Bridge, where he has two years left on his contract.

The future of fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic is also key to Fabregas’ situation at the club, with Manchester United keen on the midfielder and the Serb much more likely to be sold.

Reports in Italy last week also suggested Juventus have entered the race to sign Matic. The 28-year-old impressed alongside N’Golo Kante in Chelsea’s midfield this past season, scoring twice and proving nine assists in 40 appearances.

But Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion with Matic at United while Massimiliano Allegri has made strengthening Juventus’ midfield his priority this summer.
