Argentina held by Chile in Copa opener
Paraguay defeats Bolivia to lead group
Argentina started their 2021 Copa America campaign with a 1-1 draw against Chile at the Olympic Stadium in Brazil. Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a delicious freekick for the Albiceleste in the 33rd minute before naive defending saw Nicolas Tagliafico give away a penalty in the second half. Arturo Vidal missed the penalty, but Eduardo Vargas was on hand to tuck home the rebound after 59 minutes.
In the other game, Paraguay picked up a resounding 3-1 win over 10-man Bolivia at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico in the first game of their 2021 Copa America campaign. Bolivia went into the lead through an Erwin Saavedra penalty after 10 minutes. Jaume Cuellar was sent off for a second bookable offence in first half added time, and Paraguay turned the game around with two quick fire goals from Alejandro Romero and Angel Romero in the 62nd and 65th minutes.
