Aribo tops Odegaard, Mount, Fernandes on EPL statistics list

He may not rank amongst the best players in the English Premier League at the moment but Joe Aribo is certainly doing well with his aggressiveness for the Saints.

According to statistics released by renowned statistics company Squawka, Nigerian Midfielder Joe Aribo is ranked higher than Martin Odegaard, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes on the list of players with most possession won in the final third.

THE LIST

Joe Aribo is ranked fourth (17 ball recoveries in the final third) on the list which has Manchester City star Kevin Bruyne in first place with (20).

Leeds United’s Jack Harrison (19) is second on the list while Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard (17) occupies third place.

For a player in his debut English Premier League season, Aribo has won the ball in danger areas more than renowned stars like Martin Odegaard (16), Chelsea’s Mason Mount (14) with Manchester United Midfielder Bruno Fernandes (14) in seventh place.

ARIBO’S SEASON WITH SOUTHAMPTON THUS FAR 

Aribo and Southampton have struggled for form and consistency in the league so far.

The former Glasgow Rangers man has featured in all 15 Premier League games this season with 10 of the lot from the start.

His 948 minutes of action has yielded two league goals as Southampton managed just three wins and three draws to languish in relegation danger with 12 points.

As action resumes following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Joe Aribo and Southampton will look forward to a change in fortune to turn their season around.

His aggressiveness will be key to their aspirations when action resumes on Boxing day.

Southampton will play host to Brighton & Hove Albion on December 26 by 4pm.
