Arsenal beat Barcelona 1-0 to win 2025 Women’s Champions League

Arsenal Women made history at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon by beating Barcelona 1-0 to win the 2025 UEFA Women’s Champions League on Saturday, 24 May 2025.

This is Arsenal’s second European title, their first since 2007. They are now the only British club to have won the competition twice.

The final was a tough match. Arsenal were the underdogs, playing against Barcelona who were hoping to win the trophy for the third year in a row. Barcelona had beaten Arsenal in the 2021/22 group stages and were favourites as they reached their fifth final in a row.

In the 22nd minute, Arsenal thought they scored when Frida Leonhardsen-Maanum found the net, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for a very close offside. The score stayed 0-0.

The winning goal came in the 75th minute. Substitute Bethany Mead passed the ball perfectly to another substitute, Stina Blackstenius. The Swedish striker controlled the ball and shot low from 10 yards past Barcelona’s goalkeeper Cata Coll.

The stadium was full of joy as Arsenal took the lead. Arsenal’s defence stayed strong, and goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger made an important save in injury time to keep a clean sheet.

This win gives Arsenal the right to brag over Barcelona, adding a special chapter to their history in European women’s football.
