Arsenal lose Saka, UCL Game against Lens Ahead of City Clash
Arsenal have suffered a double loss ahead of Premier League clash with Manchester City by losing 2-1 to Lens and Bukayo Saka to injury in their Group B Champions League game on Tuesday.
The Gunners, who had previously secured a comfortable 4-0 home victory against PSV-Eindhoven in their first Group B match, took the lead in the game at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Starboy Bukayo Saka set up Gabriel Jesus for the opening goal just 11 minutes into the match. However, Lens responded with an equalizer in the 25th minute, with Adrien Thomasson finding the net, courtesy of an assist from Elye Wahi.
Arsenal’s situation took a turn for the worse when Bukayo Saka, who had been playing through injury, was forced to leave the pitch in the 34th minute, making way for Fabio Vieira.
In the 69th minute, Elye Wahi proved to be the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal that ignited celebrations among the fans at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Lens managed to hold on to their 2-1 victory, while in the other Group B game, PSV-Eindhoven displayed resilience by twice equalizing to secure a 2-2 draw against Sevilla.
After two games, the Group B standings are as follows:
Lens – 4 points
Arsenal – 3 points
Sevilla – 2 points
PSV-Eindhoven – 1 point
As Arsenal looks ahead to a crucial Premier League matchup against Manchester City this weekend, they will be hoping that Bukayo Saka’s injury, sustained during the UCL clash, is not a serious setback.
