AS Roma vs. Udinese clash abandoned after defender Evan Ndicka collapses

During a Serie A clash between AS Roma and Udinese on Sunday evening, the match came to a halt and was eventually abandoned after Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed off the ball, prompting concerns among players and officials.

The incident occurred in the 74th minute of the game, with both teams locked in a 1-1 stalemate. Romelu Lukaku had just equalized for Roma in the 64th minute, cancelling out Roberto Pereyra’s early lead for Udinese.

However, the mood quickly turned somber as Ndicka, aged 24, collapsed off the ball and required medical attention. The medical staff rushed onto the field to attend to Ndicka, who was then stretchered off the pitch.

Following Ndicka’s injury, players from both teams, along with Roma manager Daniele De Rossi and Udinese boss Gabriele Cioffi, engaged in discussions with the match referee, Luca Pairetto. After a pause of 10 minutes, it was decided to abandon the game due to the seriousness of Ndicka’s condition.

Ndicka, who joined Roma last summer on a free transfer after spending five seasons with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, was taken to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The sudden and distressing nature of Ndicka’s collapse sent shockwaves through the stadium, emphasizing the importance of player safety and well-being in football. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictability of sports and the need for prompt medical attention in such situations.
