Atletico Madrid bid farewell to Rasheedat Ajibade

Spanish football club Atlético Madrid Femenino have said goodbye to Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade after four and a half years with the team.

Ajibade joined the club in January 2021 from Norway. Since then, she played 139 matches and scored 40 goals. She helped the team win two big trophies – the Spanish Super Cup in 2021 and the Copa de la Reina in 2023.

In a message on their website and social media, Atlético thanked Ajibade for her time at the club. They called her a player full of “quality, speed, assists, and goals.”

“Rash, you’re a red and white legend,” the club wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Ajibade and three other players – Marta Cardona, Ainhoa Moraza, and Merle Barth – were honoured after Atlético’s 5–0 win against Levante Las Planas on the last day of the season. The win secured their place in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Speaking to fans, Ajibade said she felt mixed emotions.

“My people are the best in the world,” she said. “Thanks to my family, my teammates, coaches, and all the staff. Thank you for everything.”

Ajibade leaves as one of the club’s most loved players. She also remains an important player for Nigeria’s national team. Atlético praised her not only for her football skills, but also for her hard work and professionalism off the pitch.
