ATP Finals: Format and Qualification Details for Men’s Tennis Showcase

The stage is set for the ATP Finals, with a new champion poised to be crowned when the tournament concludes on November 17.

This year, the reigning titleholder, Novak Djokovic, will not defend his championship due to injury, opening the door for fresh competition.

Italy’s Jannik Sinner, currently the world No. 1, will draw significant support from the home crowd in Turin, while Carlos Alcaraz emerges as another key player after both athletes split victories in this season’s four major tournaments.

Qualification Process

To qualify for the ATP Finals, players accumulate points throughout the season via the ATP Race to Turin. By November 9, the top seven players in the rankings qualify automatically, earning points from 19 ranking events.

This includes participation in the four Grand Slam tournaments and eight ATP Masters 1000 events, which contribute to their point totals, along with their best seven results from other ranking events.

An additional spot is reserved for a Grand Slam winner from the current year who may not qualify based on ranking. This year, with Sinner and Alcaraz holding the top positions, Australian Alex De Minaur secured a spot, while Djokovic’s withdrawal allowed Andrey Rublev, ranked ninth, to enter the tournament.

Tournament Format

The singles competition features eight players divided into two groups of four for the initial round-robin stage. The top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals.

Standings in the group stage will be determined by the number of matches won, with specific tiebreakers in place if players are level in matches won: 1.
