Auwalu scores as Kano Pillars record first away win since 2019

Rivers United win to move up to 2nd on NPFL log

Kano Pillars midfielder, Auwalu Ali Malam scored his 15th career NPFL goal to help Kano Pillars secure a rare away 1-0 victory over FC Ifeanyi Ubah. The midfielder was felled outside the box and he picked himself up to tuck away the resulting freekick, albeit with the aid of a deflection from the wall in the 23rd minute of the encounter. The result ensures that Pillars enter into the league’s top 4 for the first time this season, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah remain deeply in relegation trouble in 18th.

Rivers United picked up a vital 2-0 win over Nasarawa United at their Adokiye Amiesimaka home ground. Malachi Ohawume scored a rebound after his lob over the keeper came off the crossbar to give Rivers a 7th minute lead, before Nelson Esor scored for a second game running in the 73rd minute to make the points safe for the Pride of Rivers. They move up to second on the log, 3 points behind Enyimba while Nasarawa United drop to 7th.

Rivers United’s next game is a crunch CAF Confederation Cup qualifier against Enyimba on Valentine’s Day.
