Awoniyi scores, Aina assists as Nottingham Forest lose to West Ham

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored and compatriot Ola Aina got an assist, as Nottingham Forest fell to a 3-2 defeat at West Ham.

Both Nigerian stars Awoniyi and Aina were named in the Forest starting XI for game at the London Stadium to take on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Steve Copper’s men last week defeated Aston Villa and so fancied their chances against an inconsistent West Ham side.

Lucas Paqueta struck the opener after three minutes before Awoniyi bagged his first goal since August.

Morgan Gibbs-White received the ball in the box, ran through on goal, and struck a shot, but it was saved by Emiliano Martinez but Taiwo Awoniyi was at the right place at the right time to level scores.

The Tricky Trees went ahead in the  63rd minute this time a Nigerian was available to serve an assist.

Ola Aina made a quick dash forward after some nice play in midfield before passing to Anthony Elanga, who finished from inside the box to make it 1-2.

David Moyes tutored Hammers fought-back in remarkable fashion to take maximum points.

Jarrod Bowen and Thomas Soucek scored to seal a 3-2 win for West Ham.

Nigerian footballers Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi were taken off in the 76th minute of play for Serge Aurier and Chris Woods.

Both players will now head back to Nigeria for the International break with the Super Eagles scheduled to face Lesotho and Zimbabwe in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification games.
