Jack-DeGale bout ends in entertaining majority draw

James DeGale and Badou Jack retained their respective belts after a majority draw in their thrilling unification bout in Brooklyn, New York.

In a thrilling super-middleweight showdown at the Barclays Center on Saturday, the judges could not separate the pair, scoring the fight 114-112 DeGale, 113-113 and 113-113.

Brit and IBF champion DeGale troubled Jack early, flooring the WBC belt holder in the first round with a left cross which caught the Swede off balance.

DeGale continued to look the better fighter but he never really troubled or punished Jack.

Jack found his rhythm as the fight wore on, drawing blood from DeGale in the eighth round before knocking down the visitor from London in the 12th and final round.

DeGale held on and made it to the bell, though both felt they were deserved winners, sparking talk of a rematch.

“Let’s do it again,” DeGale said before Jack responded by saying: “Let’s do it again at light heavyweight.”

Promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. felt the decision was an unfair one for his boxer Jack, saying post-fight: “This is bad for boxing.”
