Bassey Delighted to Score as Fulham End Long Wait at Turf Moor

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed his happiness after scoring his first goal of the season in Fulham’s 3-2 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

The 25-year-old has been one of Fulham’s most important players this season, starting 15 of the club’s 16 Premier League matches. His goal against Burnley was his first of the campaign.

Bassey headed in from a Harry Wilson cross in the first half to help Fulham regain the lead. The goal also played a key role in a historic victory, as it was Fulham’s first win at Turf Moor in 74 years.

Fulham had not won at the ground since April 1951, but the players were aware of the record before the match and used it as motivation.

After the game, Bassey said the win meant a lot to the team.

“It’s a big relief,” he said. “First, I want to thank God. We really needed this win. We knew about the record, but we tried not to think about it and just played our game.”

The defender also said he was pleased to finally score after a long wait.

“I enjoyed the goal a lot,” Bassey added. “I haven’t scored in a long time, so I was very happy to get one.”

Fulham will be without Bassey for the next month, as he will be away with Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The club will also miss Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi during the tournament.

Bassey remains confident in Fulham’s squad during his absence.

“We have a very good team,” he said. “We will be missed, but the team will be fine.”

Fulham’s win at Turf Moor ended a long wait and gave them a big boost in their Premier League campaign.
