Benfica Fight Back with 10 Men to Draw in Club World Cup Thriller
Benfica came back from 2-0 down to earn a draw, even after going down to 10 players, in what has been the most exciting game of the 2025 Club World Cup so far.
Boca Juniors made a fast start, scoring two goals in the first half through Miguel Merentiel and Rodrigo Battaglia. But just before half-time, they gave away a soft penalty, which Angel Di Maria calmly scored to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Benfica’s substitute Andrea Belotti was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Despite this, the Portuguese team didn’t give up. Nicolas Otamendi scored a powerful header to level the game at 2-2.
Later, Boca were also reduced to 10 men when Jorge Figal was shown a red card for a bad foul.
