Berkane Leave Uyo Hours After Late Comeback, Arrive Home on Saturday Morning

RS Berkane wasted no time leaving Uyo after their dramatic 2–1 comeback win against Rivers United in the CAF Champions League Group A clash on Friday night.
The Moroccan side scored two late goals in stoppage time to overturn Rivers United’s lead and secure all three points at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The defeat was a hard blow for Finidi George’s team, who had been heading for their first win of the group stage before Berkane struck twice in the dying moments.
With full time barely over, Berkane’s delegation headed straight to Victor Attah International Airport, where they boarded a Royal Maroc chartered flight back home. The team flew out of Uyo before midnight and touched down in Morocco early Saturday morning.
The travelling party is understood to have made a smooth return, with players and officials arriving home less than 12 hours after their victory.
The loss leaves Rivers United bottom of Group A after two matches, following their earlier 3–0 defeat to Pyramids FC in Cairo. Pressure had already been building before the fixture, with midfielder Temple Emekayi noting that playing away from Port Harcourt was far from ideal. He had urged the team to respond, but Berkane’s late goals left United with more work to do.
Berkane, meanwhile, return home with confidence, having claimed a valuable away win to strengthen their position in the group.
