Besiktas terminates player contract over alleged dating profile scandal
Turkish football club Besiktas have announced the termination of Emirhan Delibas’ contract after reports of his dating profile surfaced online, sparking controversy on social media platforms.
The 21-year-old winger, who came through Besiktas’ youth academy, has mutually agreed to leave the club despite denying the authenticity of the profile, which he labeled as ‘fake.’
Delibas, who made only two senior appearances for Besiktas, found himself at the center of a storm after an alleged profile on the dating app Bumble emerged.
The profile, falsely claiming Delibas to be 24 years old, featured a photo of him in Besiktas’ training kit holding a drink, alongside his name and an inaccurate age.
Although the official reason for Delibas’ departure was not explicitly stated by the club, it is widely speculated that the controversy surrounding the dating profile played a significant role in the decision.
In an official statement, Besiktas announced, “We have parted ways with professional football player Emirhan Delibas by mutual agreement. We wish him success in his future career.”
The player distanced himself from the profile on social media, stating, “I reject the slanders made by fake accounts,” Delibas emphasized his loyalty to Besiktas, describing the club as a responsibility and a source of motivation.
Delibas’ departure marks the end of his stay at Besiktas, a club where he began his journey in the youth ranks at the tender age of seven.
Rising through the ranks, he made his first-team debut in 2020, representing the club in various competitions.
Having also featured for Turkey at the U-17, U-18, and U-19 levels, Delibas now faces the challenge of rebuilding his career elsewhere following his departure from Besiktas.
