‘Ighalo is my past’ – Nigerian strikers ex-wife Sonia responds to reconciliation plea

Sonia Adesuwa the former wife of Nigerian striker Odion Jude Ighalo, has firmly stated that she has no intentions of reconciling with her ex-husband, saying that he is ‘her past’

On her Instagram handle, Sonia made her stance clear in response to a fan’s suggestion that she consider reuniting with former Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo. T

he fan, expressing admiration for Sonia, urged her to reconcile with her former spouse.

However, Sonia responded unequivocally, stating, “Hello sweetie, thank you for your compliment. In life, there is something known as an upgrade. Ighalo is my past. Please respect my present.”

Sonia further reinforced her position by resharing the interaction on her Instagram story, where she issued a warning to her followers, expressing her preference not to receive advice on the matter.

She cautioned that persistent messages on the subject would result in being blocked, emphasizing the importance of respecting others’ life choices.

Sonia added: ” I’d prefer not to receive messages on this issue; otherwise, you may be blocked. Learn to respect other people’s life choices”.

The couple, tied the knot in 2009, parted ways in 2020 after a decade-long marriage. Since their separation, Sonia has not shied away from sharing her perspective on social media, often engaging in public exchanges with her former husband.

In December 2023, Sonia shared photo of a mystery new lover when she wrote on social media: “One of the most handsome lawmakers in Nigeria. #myguy.”

In another post, she described the man whose face was covered as “Mi Amor,” which translates to ‘my love’ in Spanish.

Until their seperation, the marriage between Sonia and Ighalo was blessed with three kids.
