Blackburn Rovers Reveal Emmanuel Dennis’ Squad Number Ahead of Potential Debut

Championship club Blackburn Rovers have announced that Emmanuel Dennis will wear the number 42 shirt, as he prepares for a potential debut.

The Nigerian international is set to wear number 42 if he makes his first competitive appearance on Sunday when Blackburn Rovers face Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Dennis, who completed a loan move from Nottingham Forest on deadline day, got a chance to build up his fitness the following day by playing the first half of a 2-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao in a rearranged Premier League International Cup match at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium.

The last time the Super Eagles forward played first-team football was on April 27, 2024, when he played 45 minutes for Watford in a Championship game against Sunderland.

At club level, number 42 seems to be Dennis’ favourite shirt number, as he wore it at Zorya Lugansk and for four seasons at Belgian club Club Brugge.

While on loan at Cologne during the second half of the 2020-2021 season, Dennis wore number 43. He also wore number 25 at both Watford and Nottingham Forest, and at Basaksehir FK, he had number 99 on his shirt.

Blackburn Rovers’ number 42 shirt became available when Lewis Baker returned to Stoke City last month.

In the past, players like Rory Finneran, Deyovaisio Zeefuik, Joe Rankin-Costello, Lewis Travis, Kellen Daly, Sebastian Usai, and Rostyn Griffiths have all worn the number 42 for Blackburn.
