Boxing World mourns Paul Bamba’s sudden death

The boxing world is in shock following the sudden death of Paul Bamba, just six days after his career-defining victory over Rogelio Medina Luna in New Jersey.

The 35-year-old boxer passed away on Friday, only days after winning the WBA Gold cruiserweight title on December 21, marking a major milestone in his career. The victory was especially meaningful as Bamba had recently become the first client of singer Ne-Yo’s new management company.

Ne-Yo and Bamba’s family released a joint statement confirming his death, although the cause has not been disclosed.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend, and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” the statement read, as shared by TNT Sports.

The statement added, “He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual who inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.

“We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”

Bamba’s win over Medina Luna, a former super middleweight title contender, saw him improve his professional record to 19-3. The fight ended after six rounds when Medina Luna retired.

In November 2022, Bamba was set to face Tommy Fury, brother of Tyson Fury, but the match was cancelled due to weight issues.

The boxing community has lost a determined fighter and an inspiring individual, leaving many in mourning.
