BREAKING: Super Falcons Are WAFU Women’s Cup Champions

Nigeria’s Super Falcons this Saturday defeated host nation, the Elepantes of Cote D’Ivoire 5-4 on penalties to emerge champions of the 2019 WAFU Womens Cup tournament at the Stade Robert Champroux, Abidjan.

Tenerife striker Ange Koko N’Guessan gave the Elephantes the lead with a beautiful strike from a freekick in the 42min.

The Falcons pressed for the equaliser but the host nation defence stood firm to cut out all of Falcons’ attack.

With nine goals to her name at the tournament, Uchenna Kanu made it double figure of goals for herself when she levelled matters with the last kick of the game to see the final go straight to penalties.

The Falcons however prevailed 6-5 on penalties to emerge winners as captain on the night Evelyn Nwabouku scored the winner for Thomas Dennerby side

The Falcons are due back in Nigeria on Sunday, while the delegation to the FIFA World Cup final camp in Austria will depart Nigeria on Monday night.
