Bright Osayi-Samuel Joins Birmingham City on Three-Year Deal
Birmingham City have signed Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel on a three-year contract after his deal with Fenerbahce came to an end.
The 27-year-old full-back joins St Andrew’s after spending over four years in Turkey, where he made 178 appearances. He moved to Fenerbahce from Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in January 2021. Fenerbahce are now managed by Jose Mourinho.
Osayi-Samuel can play in different positions, including right-back, wing-back, and winger. He becomes Birmingham’s fourth signing this week, following the arrivals of Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle, and James Beadle, as the club prepares for life in the Championship after winning the League One title last season.
The defender has played 22 times for Nigeria since making his debut in 2022. He was part of the squad that finished second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Osayi-Samuel began his professional career with Blackpool, making his debut at just 17 years old. He helped them win promotion from League Two in 2017 via the play-offs. He later joined QPR, where he made 103 Championship appearances, adding to the six he made for Blackpool in the 2014–15 season.
“I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do,” Osayi-Samuel told the club’s website.
“Coming to Birmingham City now is another step for me – a chance to show where I’ve been and how I’ve grown over the past four years.”
Birmingham fans will be hoping his experience and versatility can help push the club closer to a Premier League return.
