Bronze targets Champions League glory with Chelsea
Lucy Bronze has made the Women’s Champions League her mission and now she wants to bring that success to Chelsea FC Women.
In an interview with UEFA conducted on 12 March, Bronze explained just how much the competition means to her.
“I moved countries twice to win the Women’s Champions League so, for me, it’s always meant so much to me to be part of the competition,” she said.
Despite winning the trophy five times with Lyon and Barcelona, the defender is still chasing more this time with Chelsea, a club yet to lift the title.
“For the club’s journey, it would be huge,” Bronze said. “It’s the one piece of silverware that’s just evaded the club.”
Chelsea now face a tough task to stay in the competition, needing to overturn a deficit against Arsenal. But Bronze remains confident.
“We know we can overturn this result,” she said.
That belief, she says, is what defines success in Europe.
“Having that belief is something that resonates with all the teams who have been successful in the Champions League… it’s just about sticking together and believing that you can do it.”
For Bronze, the motivation is clear.
“I think it’s the competition I hold closest to my heart,” she added.
