Brown Ideye says more Nigerian Players abroad want to return to NPFL
Brown Ideye, the 36-year-old striker who recently joined Enyimba, has shared that many Nigerian players currently playing abroad are eager to come back and play in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
Ideye, a key member of Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, mentioned that he has been getting messages from several players who want to return to the NPFL. He said, “I received a lot of messages from players abroad who are looking forward to joining the league.”
Notable players like Shehu Abdullahi and Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa have already made the move back to the NPFL, joining Kano Pillars this season. Ideye now joins Musa and Shehu in the domestic league, showing that more Nigerian stars are interested in returning home.
Ideye made his debut for Enyimba in a 0-0 draw against Bendel Insurance, coming on as a second-half substitute. He last played in Nigeria’s top league in 2006 before representing the country at the 2007 U-20 World Cup.
“I have many messages from players in Europe who want to come back home,” Ideye added. “We just need to support them, respect them, and work together to improve the league.”
Enyimba is currently in ninth place on the NPFL table. With the addition of a striker like Ideye, the team hopes to see better results going forward.
