In her clarification, Benson stated on Instagram that she was observing Lent, a period of spiritual reflection and preparation in the Christian tradition leading up to Easter.
She wished blessings to those observing Ramadan, clarifying that her fasting was a personal choice for her own growth.
Lent, traditionally observed by various Christian denominations including Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, and Orthodox Christians, begins on Ash Wednesday and culminates in Easter Sunday.
In contrast, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, and community for Muslims worldwide.
Tolami Benson, like her partner Bukayo Saka is of Nigerian descent and was born into a family with Afro-British roots.
