CAF Rejects Rangers’ Request to Play MC Alger Match Behind Closed Doors

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected Enugu Rangers’ request to have their CAF Champions League return leg against MC Alger played behind closed doors.
In a decision dated 22 October 2026, CAF’s Disciplinary Board turned down the Nigerian club’s request ahead of Friday’s decisive match in Algiers.
However, the board confirmed that it would open disciplinary proceedings over incidents reported during the first-leg meeting between both teams.
The ruling means supporters will be allowed to attend the return leg as scheduled, while CAF continues its investigation into the reported incidents.
The match will take place at the Stade Ali Ammar on Friday, 23 October, with kick-off set for 8pm Nigerian time.
CAF Opens Disciplinary Proceedings
Although CAF rejected Rangers’ request, the governing body confirmed that the incidents reported during the first leg would be examined.
The disciplinary proceedings are separate from the decision on whether supporters should be allowed into the stadium.
Any further action will depend on the outcome of the proceedings.
Rangers Face Decisive Test in Algiers
With their request rejected just a day before the match, Rangers must now prepare to face MC Alger in front of the home supporters.
The Nigerian side will need to remain focused as they battle to keep their CAF Champions League campaign alive.
With a place in the next round at stake, Friday’s encounter is expected to be a crucial test for Rangers as they seek a positive result away from home.
