CAF Warns NFF and Other Federations Against Misuse of Football Funds
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has warned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other member associations not to misuse or mismanage money meant for football development.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe gave this warning while speaking in Johannesburg, as financial issues continue to trouble the South African Football Association (SAFA). He stressed that CAF is serious about fighting corruption in African football.
“As CAF President, I must respect the organisation’s disciplinary bodies, including our Disciplinary Board and Appeals Committee, as well as FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS),” said Motsepe.
He also highlighted the importance of following the laws of each African country. “Good governance is essential,” he said. “In some countries, I’ve seen football association presidents go to prison. My message is clear – take them to court and let the legal system decide. Justice must be open and fair.”
Motsepe reminded everyone that football is not a private business but something that belongs to the people.
“Football is for the people and the nation,” he said. “We must be ready to make real sacrifices for its progress. I’m watching every country closely — accountability is not something we can ignore.”
