Nigeria’s representative in the CAF Champions League, MFM FC of Lagos have booked a place in the competition’s second and last qualifying round after defeating AS Real Bamako of Mali, 1 – 0 at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday.
The Olukoya Boys had the advantage coming into the game after playing out a 1-1 draw away in Mali but took only a second half header from Chijioke Akuneto to settle the nerves at the Stadium.
The first half was a cagey affair as both side couldn’t cancel each other out, MFM FC best chance of the half was Squandered by Ayinde Abiodun after he was set up brilliantly by Onuwa but couldn’t hit the target.
Real Bamako had their fair share of chances but couldn’t beat Ospino in goal for MFM FC
The first half ended with MFM FC clearly missing Sikiru Olatunbosun and Jesse Akila.
Real Bamako started the second half well but MFM FC made the telling sub after bringing in Lawal Abayomi for the ineffective Ayinde Abidoun, with the former making history as a 16yr old, becoming the youngest player to debut in the CAF Champions League
MFM FC finally got the winner after 84th min with Akuneto Chijioke nodding home from an inviting Lawal Abiodun cross.
