Calvin Bassey wins Fulham Player of the Season
Calvin Bassey has been named Fulham’s Player of the Season for 2024/25 after a brilliant year at the heart of the club’s defence, SportsRation reports.
The 25-year-old Super Eagles defender has been a key figure for Fulham since joining from Ajax. Known for his strength, pace and ability to play the ball out from the back, Bassey missed just three league matches this season and was vital in helping Fulham stay solid at the back.
Bassey made 35 Premier League appearances in 2024/25, showing consistency and reliability throughout the campaign. In total, he has now played 64 times in the Premier League.
Fulham praised Bassey in their statement, calling him “a highly dependable figure at the back” and highlighting his “pace, strength and confidence bringing the ball out of defence” as key qualities that stood out during the season.
Bassey topped the fan vote with 39.6 per cent, ahead of teammates Alex Iwobi and Bernd Leno. This award comes after he finished second in the voting last season.
In response to the honour, Bassey said:
“Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season. I want to thank God – without God I wouldn’t be where I am. Big up all my team, guys who are not necessarily at the club, who have been helping me.
Obviously, thanks to the coaching staff and the manager for trusting me and believing in me. Hopefully, we can do amazing things next season, so thank you for your support guys.”
Bassey first made his name with Rangers, playing a vital role in their run to the 2022 Europa League final before moving to Ajax and later to Fulham, where he has become one of the team’s most important players.
