Captain Mikel drags Middlesbrough back into play-offs zone with win against Etebo’s Stoke

John Mikel Obi was again the catalyst as Middlesbrough secured a 1-0 win against Oghenekaro Etebo’s Stoke City in a championship game played at Riverside on Friday.

Britt Assombalonga’s goal inside the first couple of minutes settled matters at the Riverside as Boro registered third wins in succession to return back into the Play-Off places.

Middlesbrough had lost the hopes of making the playoffs cut after six straight loses but Tony Pulis decision to make John Mikel Obi the captain may have done the magic.

Since Mikel Obi was made the captain, Middlesbrough had won all three games they played within the period to reignite their playoffs hopes.

With just three games to the end of the season, Boro now sits 6th with 67 points in 43 games while Bristol City and Derby who are outside the playoff zone have 66 and 64 points to from 42 games.

Both Mikel Obi and Oghenekaro Etebo were in action for the entire duration of the game at Riverside.
