Carlos Alcaraz battles past Faria to reach US Open Third Round

Carlos Alcaraz has reached the third round of the US Open after beating Faria 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.

After dropping the opening set, Alcaraz quickly found his level and took control of the match. The defending champion has now won 16 straight matches at hard-court Grand Slams and reached the US Open third round for the fifth time.

Alcaraz is still finding his rhythm after missing four months, but the Spaniard once again showed why he remains one of the toughest players to beat.

Asked about the difference between day and night sessions at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Alcaraz said:

“100%. The day session comparing to the night session here is a totally different game. The conditions are different. Obviously the crowd is super electric here in the night session. I love playing in front of such a great atmosphere, great people. I could feel the difference.”

The five-time US Open third-round player also revealed plans to take longer breaks in the future because of the increasingly demanding tennis calendar.

“Seeing how tight the calendar is, obviously I don’t want to have this break because of an injury. But in the future, I’m gonna take some breaks… some long breaks. Maybe not 4 months, but 1 month, 2 months… start missing some tournaments because it’s impossible to play them all.”

He added:

“We’re seeing a lot of players getting injured, a lot of players getting tired. If they don’t do anything about it, we’re gonna see it even more in the future.”
