Carlos Alcaraz beats Djokovic to win Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz has just defeated Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to win the Australian Open final.

With the win, Alcaraz becomes the youngest man in history to complete the Career Grand Slam at 22 years old. He is also the first player ever to beat Djokovic in an Australian Open final. It is Alcaraz’s seventh Grand Slam title and his first Australian Open crown, and he remains unbeaten in 2026.

The final was played with Rafael Nadal watching from the stands. During the match, Djokovic turned toward Nadal and joked, “Wanna play, Rafa?” After lifting the trophy, Alcaraz used his on court interview to praise Djokovic.

“First of all, I want to talk about Novak. He deserves an ovation for sure,” Alcaraz said. “What you’re doing is really inspiring. Not only for tennis players, but for athletes and people around the world. It’s been an honor sharing the locker room and sharing the court with you.”

Djokovic responded with grace in defeat. He first thanked his team.

“I have to thank my team for enduring me first of all,” he said.“It hasn’t been smooth sailing, but you guys are my rock.”

He then addressed Alcaraz directly.

“First and foremost, congratulations Carlos. Amazing tournament,” Djokovic said. “What you’re doing is historic. Legendary. You’re very young, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other many times in the next 10 years.”

With this result, Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have now won the last nine Grand Slam titles
