CATS ladies to represent Southern Conference at National finals
Community Action Through Sports (CATS) Ladies have emerged victorious in the Southern Finals of the inaugural Girls Play Sports Football Tournament, held at the New Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle, Lagos.
CATS Ladies delivered a stellar performance, beginning with an emphatic 4-0 win over Adewale Babes. Their resilience was on display in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Royaltoms Queens, which solidified their path to the final.
Despite a narrow defeat to Royaltoms Queens in their last group match, CATS Ladies secured the top spot, while Adewale Babes claimed second place on goal difference, edging out Royaltoms Queens.
As Southern champions, CATS Ladies will now advance to the national finals, set for September 29, 2024, in Abuja. They will face the Northern champions in a showdown to claim the ultimate title.
Honourable Ayo Omidiran, who has been a driving force behind the tournament, expressed her excitement about the talent discovery platform. “This tournament provides young girls the chance to showcase their abilities and inspires the next generation of female footballers,” she said.
With over 60 grassroots clubs participating, attention now shifts to the Northern Finals, scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25 in Abuja. The tournament aims to foster and develop emerging talents, with many hoping to find the next Asisat Oshoala.
