Cautious Moffi says Super Eagles will give everything vs Cote d’Ivoire

France based striker Terem Moffi has expressed caution while promising Super Eagles will give everything to win crucial Cote d’Ivoire clash at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will face tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire in their second group game on Thursday, January 18, 2023.

The stakes are high for both teams, with Cote d’Ivoire leading Group A after a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau, while Nigeria faces a challenging position following a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in their opening match on Sunday.

Moffi, who missed the first fixture after arriving late as a replacement for the injured Victor Boniface, is determined to help Nigeria’s push for victory.

The Super Eagles need a win to boost their chances of advancing to the next round of the tournament, while a loss could jeopardize their AFCON journey.

Expressing optimism, Moffi said, “We are looking forward to this. We know how important it is for us, for the fans as well, and for Nigerians. We are going there believing and staying positive.”

Acknowledging the significance of the upcoming match, he urged support from Nigerian fans and emphasized the team’s commitment to giving their best on the field.

Moffi, cautious about making bold predictions, added, “Talk is cheap, to be honest. I could say we are going to win the game, but it is not always like that. However, we will try to give our 100 per cent and walk off the pitch with our heads held high.”

Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, faces the threat of elimination if they fail to secure a victory against Cote d’Ivoire while Elephants, with two titles in this competition will secure passage to the second round of the tournament with a win.

The Super Eagles hold a slight head-to-head advantage over the Ivorians at the AFCON, boasting three wins and suffering two defeats in six meetings.
