Celebration in Akwa Ibom State over National Youths Games Football Bronze medal win

News that Team Akwa Ibom defeated Kaduna State 2-1 to win the bronze medal match of the ongoing 2023 National Youths Games has sparked celebration in the South-south state.

WHAT HAPPENED: SportsRation correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan broke news of the victory on his Facebook handle, to start celebration and congratulatory message to the Akwa Ibom State National Youths Games male football team.

In separate comments, excited fans , praised the depleted team Akwa Ibom boys for their efforts to deliver the state’s seventh medal at the ongoing National Youths Games in Delta State.

ROAD TO BRONZE: Akwa Ibom State arrived in Delta State for the 7th National Youths Games as winners of the south-south elimination.

The team was left depleted when nine of the eighteen players were disqualified at the screening on Friday, September 22.

The numerical disadvantage notwithstanding, Akwa Ibom State defeated Yobe State on two occasions to reach the last-4.

Plateau State then halted Akwa Ibom State’s march to Gold in the Semi-final on Thursday September 28, a 2-0 loss to setup a winner takes Bronze match vs Kaduna State who were spanked 0-5 by Lagos State in the other last-4 match.

THIRD PLACE MATCH: The third place final match was played at the Jay Jay Okocha Stadium Ogwuashiukwu on Friday, September 29.

Coach Daniel Japhet tutored Team Akwa Ibom drew first blood through midfielder Kingsley Amos before Bright Nda added a second, while Yusuf Mohammed scored for Kaduna State to sum a 2-1 result.

Bronze medal for Team Akwa Ibom State who have enjoyed significant public support and cash reward, first from Czech Republic based footballer, Ubong Ekpai and Sir Monty FC Chairman, Prince Ukeme Ukpong.

WHAT NEXT: The Akwa Ibom State male football team will be decorated with the National Youths Games Bronze medal after the final match between Lagos State and Plateau State on Friday evening.

Also , six members of the Akwa Ibom State Football Team, will join the Nigeria U-15 boys team in Abuja, having impressed the Evaluation and Talent hunt team.
