Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka has been sanctioned by the franchise after he was adjudged to have flouted their code of conduct. The former D’Tigers player is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after his misdemeanor.
Udoka joined the Boston Celtics in 2021 and led the impressively in his debut season as Head Coach of the franchise. He got his team into the NBA Finals where they lost 4-2 to a Steph Curry-inspired Golden State Warriors side.
News filtering out just a month to the 2022-23 NBA season is that the Nigerian head coach is facing a lengthy suspension, possibly for the whole of the 2022-23 season. He was caught in a consensual sexual relationship with a female member of the staff of the franchise, an act that is seriously frowned at by the Celtics.
Udoka expects to receive a definitive verdict from the Celtics’ front office as soon as today, but his job is not in danger according to renowned NBA reporter Shams Charania. If Udoka indeed gets suspended, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla could step in in an interim basis.
