CHAN 2020: Sikiru Alimi Brace Not Enough For Eagles To Qualify

The Super Eagles of Nigeria this Saturday lost the chance to qualify for the 2020 African Nations Championship after a 2-0 (2-4 agg) win over Togo at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.








The Eagles who were trailing 4-1 on aggregate needed three goals to qualify but despite their spirited effort could only muster a 2-0 scoreline.





In a tension soaked game in Agege, Sikiru Alimi eased the pressure as he scored in the ninth minute when he strike home from the box.








Alimi went close again the the 22nd minute when his shot from a loose ball in the area, beat the goalkeeper but the Togolese clear.






The first half ended with Nigeria doing all of the hard work with the second half starting as the first when Ndah Olisa headed the ball into the net but the referee spotted an infringement with the goal cancelled.







Sikiri Alimi again scored from a loose ball to get his brace as the stadium erupted in hope of a third goal.






There was to be no further goals for the Super Eagles even after a 10mins added time as Nigeria, last edition runners up won’t be making an appearance at the CHAN 2020 in Cameroon.
