Chelsea defeat Newcastle at Stamford Bridge

Newcastle’s struggles continued as they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. SportsRation reports.

Chelsea, aiming to bounce back from their recent Premier League setbacks, secured a crucial 3-2 victory over the Magpies, maintaining their 11th position on the league table.

Chelsea made two changes to their lineup compared to their previous match against Brentford, with Marc Cucurella returning from injury and Raheem Sterling also featuring in the starting XI. On the other hand, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe made two alterations to the team that triumphed over Wolves, with Tino Livramento replacing the injured Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron coming in for Jacob Murphy in attack.

The match began with a scrappy start from both sides, leading to Chelsea’s opening goal in the 6th minute. Malo Gusto’s cross from the right was mishandled by Sven Botman, allowing Cole Palmer to capitalize from 20 yards out. Nicolas Jackson added to Chelsea’s lead by flicking the ball into the net with his back to goal.

Newcastle found their rhythm later in the game and managed to equalize just before halftime through Alexander Isak’s well-executed strike. However, Chelsea regained the lead in the second half, with Palmer scoring his second goal of the game with a powerful left-footed shot from 22 yards out.

The Blues extended their lead further in the 77th minute when Mykhaylo Mudryk capitalized on a defensive error to score past Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Despite a late goal from Jacob Murphy for Newcastle in injury time, Chelsea held on to secure the victory.

The win sees Chelsea maintaining their position in the Premier League standings, while Newcastle’s struggles continue as they search for form in the 2023/2024 Premier league season.
