Chelsea Eliminated from Carabao Cup After Liverpool Win on Penalties

Chelsea have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing to Liverpool in a dramatic fourth-round encounter at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time before Liverpool held their nerve in the penalty shootout, winning 6-5 to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Liverpool took the lead through Cody Gakpo, who converted a penalty in the 43rd minute. Chelsea responded before the break, with Morgan Rogers also scoring from the spot in the 40th minute.

Despite both teams creating opportunities to find a winner, neither could break the deadlock in the second half. With the competition’s fourth-round ties decided on the night, the match went straight to penalties.

The shootout proved to be a tense affair, with Liverpool eventually coming out on top after both teams missed crucial kicks. The result sends the Reds into the last eight, while Chelsea’s hopes of lifting the Carabao Cup this season come to an end.

For Chelsea, the defeat represents another disappointing result following their recent loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The Blues will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Manchester United as they look to get back to winning ways.
