Chelsea fans to display banner in appreciation of John Obi Mikel during Brentford clash

Chelsea fans have decided to honour former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel at the Matthew Harding Stand with a special banner when they host Brentford in a Premier League game this Saturday.

Mikel Obi who was a key member of the Chelsea squad during the start of their dominance in English football will be appreciated for his role during his time at the club.

The Nigerian played a key role during his time at Chelsea from 2006 to 2017 and he will be appreciated as Twitter user cfcuk Fanzine shared in a tweet that the Matthew Harding Stand has been blasted with a banner paying tribute to Mikel Obi one of the club’s most underrated in the modern era.

“Very pleased to feature a couple of photos of the latest banner to adorn the Matthew Harding Stand
Supplied by my good pal Dash, it’s a tribute to Mikel John Obi.

“A player who, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated in the modern era of ChelseaFC.”

The banner design featured ‘Taking The Mikel’ with a Champions League trophy.

This could be reflecting the role the Nigerian played in helping Chelsea secure their first-ever Champions League title in Germany against Bayern Munich in their stadium in 2012.

John Obi Mikel won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one UEFA Europa League, and the Champions League title during his time at Chelsea.

The two-time Chelsea young player of the year is without a club five months after leaving Al Kuwait SC.

Chelsea continue their top-four push when they play Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 4 pm, Nigerian time.
