Chelsea: Nicolas Jackson says sorry after Club World Cup red card

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has said sorry after being shown a red card during the team’s defeat to Flamengo in the Club World Cup.

Jackson came on in the second half with the match level. Just one minute later, Flamengo scored. Three minutes after that, Jackson made a bad tackle on Lucas Ayrton and was sent off straight away.

It’s the second red card for Jackson in just a few weeks. He was also sent off against Newcastle in a recent Premier League match. After the game, former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel called Jackson “stupid” during his TV appearance on DAZN.

Flamengo went on to score again, winning the match. Chelsea now need a result against ES Tunis in their final group game.

Jackson posted an apology on social media. He said:

“I want to say sorry to the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans. I let you down.
Another red card – I’m really angry with myself. I train hard every day to help the team, not to hurt it.
I still don’t fully understand how it happened, but I know it wasn’t on purpose. It was just a football moment that went wrong.
No excuses. I take full responsibility.
I’ll think about it, learn from it, and come back stronger.
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.”
