Chelsea sign Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal

Jackson becomes first signing of Pochettino era

Chelsea have announced the signing of Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal on an eight-year deal for around £30m this summer.

The Blues appointed former PSG and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino after a disastrous 2022-23 season in which they finished 12th in the Premier League and managed only 38 goals in 38 Premier League matches in the entire season.

To overcome their goalscoring problem, the Blues have turned to 22-year-old Senegalese striker Jackson, who scored 13 goals for Villarreal last season. They paid over £30m for the forward, who has joined the club on an eight-year deal.

Nicolas Jackson will look to have an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge upon his arrival at the club and follow the footsteps of fan favourites such as Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.

Jackson will become the fifth Senegalese player to play for Chelsea after Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Papy Djilobodji, and Demba Ba.

Chelsea are undergoing major changes in their playing personnel this summer, having already sanctioned the exits of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante, raising around £200m in transfer fees.
