Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo Names Favourite Nigerian Mea

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has shared that his favourite Nigerian food is pounded yam with okro soup, as rumours continue about him possibly playing for Nigeria.

The 27-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Fulham in the summer of 2024, revealed this after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fluminense FC at the MetLife Stadium in the United States. The win sent Chelsea through to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

In a video posted on social media platform X, Adarabioyo was asked about his favourite meal. He smiled and replied: “Pounded yam and okro soup.”

Tosin Adarabioyo, who is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, scored the opening goal as Chelsea defeated Esperance 3-0 to qualify for the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Since joining Chelsea, Adarabioyo has impressed with his strong performances in defence. He helped the team win the UEFA Conference League and now reach the Club World Cup final.

His form has led to new interest from Nigeria, who are hoping he will choose to represent the Super Eagles at international level.

Adarabioyo was born in London to Nigerian parents and has played for England at youth level (U16 to U19), but he has never played for the senior England team. This means he is still eligible to play for Nigeria.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers starting again in September, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is said to be interested in adding Adarabioyo to his squad to strengthen the defence.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been keeping an eye on the defender and hopes to convince him to commit to the Super Eagles, joining other players of Nigerian heritage who have chosen to play for the country.
