Christian Atsu closes in on a permanent move to Newcastle
Four years after joining Chelsea from FC Porto, Black Stars’ winger Christian Atsu is set to leave the London club for Newcastle United on a permanent deal.
Atsu, 25, played a huge role in helping Newcastle to bounce back from the Championship at the first attempt, and his performances have done enough to persuade Benitez to splash the cash
The Toon have informed Chelsea they want to take up their £6.2million option to buy the winger after his season-long loan at St James’ Park.
Atsu has made 35 appearances for the Magpies this season.
He has scored five times in that time.
If the deal goes through Atsu would be leaving Chelsea without kicking the ball within the four years spent on the club’s book.
