Christopher Danjuma predicts emergence of new Nigerian star at 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Falconets head coach Christopher Danjuma has confidently predicted the rise of a new Nigerian football star as his team gears up for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team faces a challenging task in Group D, where they will compete against Germany, South Korea, and Venezuela, with their first match scheduled against the Korean squad.

Drawing inspiration from Asisat Oshoala’s breakout performance at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she emerged as a global sensation, Danjuma is optimistic that another ‘Agba Baller’—a term Nigerian fans use to describe football legends—will make a similar impact on the world stage.

“Every tournament, we showcase top players, such as Asisat Oshoala, who was our star performer at the 2014 U-20 World Cup. I am confident that at least one other ‘Agba Baller,’ as our fans call her, will emerge in Colombia,” Danjuma stated in an interview with FIFA Media.

Leading the Falconets into this tournament, Danjuma has assembled a strong squad that includes four professional players: Rofiat Imuran, Flourish Sabastine, Opeyemi Ajakaye, and Aminat Bello. While these experienced players are expected to play pivotal roles, Danjuma is equally enthusiastic about the local league players in his squad, who are eager to showcase their talent on the global stage.

“These are definitely key players who are leading figures in the team. Just having them around boosts the squad. However, the team is largely made up of players from the national league, and we also want to highlight their quality and contribution. The main point is that our players have made great strides and are now ready to excel against tough opponents,” Danjuma added.

The Super Falconets will kick off their World Cup campaign against South Korea, followed by encounters with Germany and Venezuela in the group stage. With high expectations and a blend of experienced professionals and promising local talent, Danjuma’s squad is poised to make a significant impact at the tournament.
