Club World Cup: Bayern Munich crush corporate employees Auckland City 10-0

It was always going to be a mismatch, but few expected it to be quite this emphatic. In a surreal Group C clash at the FIFA Club World Cup, Bayern Munich demolished Auckland City 10-0 in what felt more like a training session than a tournament showdown. The German champions handed a footballing lesson to a team of part-timers who balance football with nine-to-fives as teachers, real estate agents, and hairdressers.

For Auckland City, just getting to the Club World Cup was a victory in itself. Representing Oceania thanks to their consistent continental performances, the New Zealanders took the pitch without several key players who chose work obligations over international travel.

Bayern didn’t hold back. Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the 6th minute and doubled it in the 21st. New signing Sacha Boey and Michael Olise added three more before half-time, including a beauty from Thomas Müller who added his name to history with his 250th goal for Bayern Munich.

By halftime, the scoreboard read 6-0, and the second half offered little relief for the Kiwis. Jamal Musiala turned on the style with a second-half hat trick, including a penalty, and Müller rounded off the rout in the final minute.

The final score: 10-0. A spectacle of professionalism versus passion, of football superstars versus football dreamers.

Bayern Munich vs Auckland

Despite the scoreline, Auckland City’s appearance on this global stage is a reminder of football’s reach, that even those who coach on weekends and close sales on weekdays can earn a place alongside football’s elite, not only for 90 unforgettable minutes but a prestigious tournament like the FIFA Club World Cup.

Next up for Bayern: tougher tests await. But for now, they’ve made a statement.
