Coco Gauff Reaches China Open Semi-Finals Again

Coco Gauff, the defending champion, has reached the semi-finals of the China Open for the third year in a row after beating Eva Leys in straight sets.

The world number three won the match 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes.

The 21-year-old American, who has won two Grand Slam titles, broke Leys’ serve three times in the first set and made the most of her chances.

“I’m happy with how I played. She’s a tough opponent and hit some amazing shots, but I tried to stay aggressive and play good tennis,” said Gauff.

“I stayed confident in my game. Even when I was ahead, I didn’t play too safely. I had one passive point in the last game, but after that, I finished strong.”

Strong Serving Performance

Gauff, who has sometimes struggled with her serve this season, was solid this time, landing 79% of her first serves.

She is now the highest-ranked player left in the tournament after earlier exits by other top players.

Gauff, who won the French Open earlier this year but was knocked out early at Wimbledon, will face either Amanda Anisimova or Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals.
