Confirmed: Mikel Obi will not play against Serbia

Super Eagles and Tianjin TEDA captain, John Mikel Obi will not play a part in Nigeria’s second World Cup warm up tie against Serbia on Tuesday.

It has been confirm that the former Chelsea midfielder will miss the opportunity to catch up with two of his former Chelsea teammates, Bransilav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic when Nigeria lock horns with Serbia at The Hive, Canons Park on Tuesday.

John Mikel Obi who is the most capped Super Eagles player in the current team didn’t play in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory against Poland at Wroclaw, he also has been confirmed out of the Serbia clash making it two in a row.

During the pre match conference for the Poland clash Gernot Rohr confirmed he would be out of the clash due to work permit for same reason he has been ruled out.

“We have a team but we need a leader and John Obi Mikel is our uncontested leader, it will be interesting to see how the other players can do without him, unfortunately, he had this visa problem in China which means he could go out but not come back so it was a problem.”

John Mikel Obi has been replaced by Bursaspor midfielder Mikel Agu according to reports.

“Mikel Agu was called up owing to the inability of captain Mikel John Obi to travel from China,” said an NFF source.

Tuesday’s match at The Hive, Canons Park starts at 8pm.
