Conte appointed as new Tottenham Hotspur manager

Italian joins Spurs, replaces sacked Nuno Espirito Santo

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has been appointed as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo following a dismal run of results that has left the club struggling on all fronts.

Conte will arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on an initial 18-month deal that would lapse in 2023, and his immediate task would be to steady the ship at the North London club following their poor run of form that has seen them slip to eighth in the English Premier League and third in their UEFA Europa Conference League group.

Conte’s appointment as Tottenham Hotspur manager would come as a surprise to many as he was reportedly the top candidate that was set to take over affairs at Old Trafford in case Manchester United decided to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Solskjaer’s 3-0 win over Tottenham saved his own job at the expense of Nuno Espirito Santo’s.

The Italian was first approached by Tottenham in June after he parted ways with Inter Milan following a title-winning campaign, but he refused to make the switch at the time. Spurs executive director Fabio Paratici has reportedly been key to Conte agreeing a deal with the club mid-season.

The manager has met the Tottenham Hotspur squad today after flying to London immediately a verbal agreement was reached on November 1st. His deal with the club contains an option to extend his contract provided that the club’s goals are achieved.

A serial winner who has won titles in every league he has coached, Conte’s role as Tottenham Hotspur manager would be to get the best out of the players at his disposal and deliver silverware to the North London club for the first time in 13 years.

His previous stint in England came in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons where he won the English Premier League and FA Cup titles, respectively, with Chelsea.
