Conte to continue with Cahill as Chelsea captain
Antonio Conte has confirmed that Gary Cahill will become Chelsea`s new permanent captain following the departure of John Terry.
“I think that it`s right to continue with Cahill, if he plays, it`s right he`s the captain,” he said to The evening standard.
Why? Because he stayed in Chelsea for many years and played a lot of games and showed good characteristics to be this.”
Cahill wore the armband for most of last season and has obviously picked up a lot of John Terry`s traits during their playing time together.
Despite the odd mistakes by the ex-Bolton lad, his commitment to the Chelsea cause can not be doubted.
Given the opportunity he can be a great leader on the pitch.
Cahill joined Chelsea in January 2012 for a fee in the region of £7 million, this has to go down as one of the best bits of business Chelsea have ever done.
