Cote d’Ivoire Vs Nigeria: Okocha backs Osimhen to make amends for misses vs Equatorial Guinea
As Nigeria prepare to face Cote d’Ivoire in their second game of the 2023 AFCON, former Super Eagles skipper, Austin Okocha is confident Victor Osimhen will make amends for the missed goal-scoring chances in the game vs Equatorial Guinea.
Côte d’Ivoire and the Super Eagles of Nigeria will lock-horns at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 on January 18.
In an exclusive interview with CAFOnline, Okocha acknowledged Osimhen’s status as a fantastic footballer and top-tier goal scorer, emphasizing the importance of the team’s support for him.
Reflecting on the opening game against Equatorial Guinea, Okocha mentioned that while Osimhen received the team’s support, there is room for improvement in certain aspects.
“Victor Osimhen is undoubtedly a fantastic footballer and a top-tier goal scorer. He needs his team’s support, and I think he received it in the opening game,” Okocha stated. “We don’t always witness him passing up obvious chances. We have hope and faith in him because we know he can excel in any competition, and I believe he is willing to make amends for his faults.”
A win for Nigeria will certainly boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the competition while tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire will be motivated to get past the Eagles and become the first team to reach the 2023 AFCON knockout round.
