Curry hurt again as Warriors beat Nuggets in OT, Karl equals record for fifth-most wins

NBA MVP Steph Curry reinjured his left shin during the Golden State Warriors’ 111-108 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.

Heading into the game, Curry had missed back-to-back outings with discomfort in his shin, but decided during warm-ups that it felt good enough before facing Denver.

However, Curry managed to score just five points in 14 minutes in his return before exiting the game with just over two minutes remaining in the second period.

The Warriors appeared capable of dealing with Curry’s loss, inspired by Draymond Green’s double-double of 29 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists, but the NBA champions squandered a 26-point lead late in the game.

Will Barton forced overtime after levelling the score at 102-apiece with a second remaining in the final period, however, the Warriors outscored the Nuggets 9-6 in the additional stanza for consecutive wins.

The Sacramento Kings overcame the slumping Phoenix Suns 142-119 as coach George Karl tied the record for the fifth-most career wins in NBA history.

DaMarcus Cousins led the way with 32 points and nine rebounds, helping Karl record his 1,155th league victory in 27 seasons.

The 64-year-old Karl, who has previously coached the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Real Madrid, is now level alongside Phil Jackson.

Brandon Knight had 23 points for the Suns, who lost an eighth consecutive game.

The San Antonio Spurs remain flawless on home court after downing the Houston Rockets 121-103.

LaMarcus Aldridge posted 24 points and Kawhi Leonard contributed 22 of his own as the Spurs improved to 20-0 in San Antonio this season.

O.J. Mayo was ejected and had to be restrained by assistant coaches during the Milwaukee Bucks’ 95-85 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron James, who moved into 21st place on the all-time assist list with 6,477 after tallying three on the night, guided the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Orlando Magic 104-79, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Charlotte Hornets 109-90, the New Orleans Pelicans upstaged the Dallas Mavericks 105-98 and the Detroit Pistons fell 94-82 to the Indiana Pacers.

The Utah Jazz edged the Memphis Grizzlies 92-87, the Boston Celtics lost 100-97 against the Brooklyn Nets, while the Los Angeles Clippers disposed of the Philadelphia 76ers 130-99.
